A place for making, learning, and spending time with craft

The Smiddy is a contemporary craft space in Banff, North East Scotland, rooted in jewellery and silversmithing. We bring together learning, independent making, residencies, community programmes, and a public gallery within one shared environment.

Everything we do is shaped by care for materials, process, and people. Professional standards are held alongside a calm and welcoming approach, so people can engage with craft in ways that feel clear, supported, and unpressured.

People arrive at the Smiddy at many different stages. Some are encountering making for the first time. Others are returning after time away, or developing an established practice. All are welcome.

There is no single way to engage

People come to the Smiddy for different reasons. Some want to learn new skills in a structured way. Others want time and space to make independently. Some simply want to spend time with materials in a shared environment.

You do not need to know where you fit before you arrive. You are welcome to take part in one area only, or to move between different offers over time. There is no expected pathway.

Real makers, real craft.

Learn

For anyone who wants to learn, try, or build
