Private Skills Sessions

Focused learning at your own pace

Private Skills Sessions offer focused, supported learning for people who want time to develop specific jewellery or silversmithing skills.

Sessions are taught one-to-one or in small groups and are designed to allow learning to slow down, settle, and build confidence. Each session has a clear focus agreed in advance, so you know what you are working towards.

Private Skills Sessions sit alongside Courses and Experiences, offering an alternative way to learn that is flexible, skills-led, and responsive to individual needs.

Types of Private Skills Sessions

Private Skills Sessions at the Smiddy currently include two main options.

Further Skills & Techniques - Developing depth and confidence

These sessions focus on building depth within existing skills. They are suitable if you want to improve confidence, accuracy, or understanding in techniques you have already encountered.

Bespoke Training Packages - Individually designed learning

Bespoke Training Packages are individually designed learning programmes shaped around specific goals or projects.

They are suitable for people who want a tailored approach to skill development, working at a pace that suits their needs and availability.

  • Private Skills Sessions are suitable for:

    • People who have attended Courses or Experiences and want to consolidate or extend their learning

    • Returning makers who want focused support after time away

    • Individuals who prefer one-to-one or small group learning

Some sessions may require prior experience, which is always made clear in advance.

  • Private Skills Sessions provide structured, skills-based learning with dedicated time and attention.

They allow space to revisit techniques, build confidence through repetition, or develop specific areas of practice that are difficult to cover fully in a group setting.

Sessions are planned in advance, with learning shaped around clearly defined goals.

How Private Skills Sessions fit within the Smiddy

Private Skills Sessions sit between structured group learning and independent practice.

Some people use these sessions to prepare for Membership or Residency applications. Others use them simply to deepen skills and stop there. There is no expectation to progress beyond the sessions themselves.
