Studio & Space Hire offers short-term access to Smiddy spaces for defined activities that sit outside Membership, Studio Access, and Residencies.
This option is intended for specific, agreed uses and is arranged on a case-by-case basis. It allows the Smiddy to accommodate occasional external activity while protecting the integrity of the workshop and its regular users.

Studio & Space Hire provides temporary access to Smiddy spaces for clearly defined purposes.
This may include short-term teaching, professional hire, project-based work, or other agreed activity that aligns with the Smiddy’s values and capacity.
Hire arrangements are shaped carefully to ensure they do not disrupt learning, residencies, or independent making.

It is not a substitute for Membership or Residencies.
It is not unsupervised open access.
It is not available on a drop-in basis.Clear definition helps ensure expectations are shared from the outset.
How hire is arranged
All Studio & Space Hire is arranged through direct enquiry.
This allows time to discuss the nature of the activity, space requirements, scheduling, and any support needs, and to ensure the proposed use is appropriate for the workshop and wider programme.
Relationship to other access routes
Studio & Space Hire sits alongside, but separate from, Membership, Studio Access, and Residencies.
If you are looking for regular independent access, Membership may be more appropriate. If you are looking for longer-term, focused time, a Residency may be a better fit.
