Schools & Outreach Workshops
Education-focused creative workshops
Schools & Outreach Workshops introduce children, young people, and community groups to making through structured, hands-on creative sessions.
These workshops are educational in intent and carefully adapted to suit the age, experience, and setting of each group. They prioritise safe engagement, curiosity, and confidence through doing, rather than outcomes or progression.
Schools & Outreach Workshops sit within the Learn section of the Smiddy and exist to widen access to craft skills and creative experiences.
What Schools & Outreach Workshops are
These workshops are planned, facilitated sessions that introduce tools, materials, and basic processes in jewellery and silversmithing.
Sessions may take place at the Smiddy or in external settings such as schools, community spaces, or partner venues. Each workshop is shaped around the needs of the group and delivered in a way that supports attention, safety, and engagement.
Workshops are led by experienced tutors and facilitators and are designed to be welcoming and accessible.
What Schools & Outreach Workshops are not
Schools & Outreach Workshops are not drop-in activities:
They are not qualifications or accredited training
They are not replacements for longer-term courses
They are not designed as recruitment pathways
Clear boundaries help ensure these workshops remain focused on education and access.
Who these workshops are for
Schools & Outreach Workshops are suitable for:
Primary and secondary school groups
Youth groups and community organisations
Groups seeking structured creative activity with educational value
Workshops can be adapted to suit different ages and levels of experience. Any access or support needs can be discussed in advance.
How workshops are arranged
All Schools & Outreach Workshops are arranged by enquiry.
This allows time to discuss the needs of the group, appropriate content, group size, location, and scheduling. Workshops are offered subject to tutor availability and capacity.
Relationship to other Smiddy activity
Schools & Outreach Workshops exist as a distinct part of the Smiddy’s learning offer.
They do not imply progression into Courses, Experiences, or other activity, although some groups choose to explore further engagement independently at a later point.
Support for these workshops is sometimes made possible through donations that help widen access to creative education.
