GIVE ME THE INFO…
This class will give you an insight into the traditional technique of raising a metal bowl using traditional silversmithing techniques. Why not use it for storing all the awesome jewels you have been hard at work making?!
This class is part of our ‘Silversmith Sessions’ run by Megan Falconer. If you want to do another or all of them, take a look at our ‘Forge a Silver Ring and Cuff’ and ‘Forge a Silver Spoon’ sessions.
If you are interested, please enter code DOUBLESILVER when buying two to get 10% off, or enter code TRIPLESILVER to get 20% off if you fancy doing them all!
CAN I DO THIS CLASS?
You can be a complete beginner but some jewellery experience may be handy but not essential. All tools and materials will be provided.
WHAT HAPPENS?
Our tutor will give you an introduction and step by step guide to techniques such as raising, blocking, sinking and planishing in order to create a bespoke copper bowl for you to take home and enjoy after this course.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You don’t need to bring anything with you as we will provide all the equipment and materials needed. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools required to make the bowl.
Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.
If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!
At this time we can’t let you borrow our aprons, you are advised to bring your own if you want to protect your clothes.
Due to current protocols, students will need to wear a face-covering [unless they are exempt]. You will be sent the most up to date protocols and clear instructions ahead of the class. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refreshments at this time but please feel free to bring your own water bottles/juice or a flask of tea/coffee.
WHO IS TEACHING ME?
Megan Falconer is a jewellery designer, maker and silversmith who has been making collections of jewellery and bespoke work for the past 7 years. Graduating in 2015 from DJCAD, Megan then went on to teach for us here at Vanilla Ink The Smiddy as resident silversmith and lead tutor for 3 years. Since graduating, Megan has continued to gain skills within the jewellery and silversmithing industry through short courses and overseas residencies and a huge part of her practice is passing on these skills to others.
Megan's jewellery and silverware are hugely inspired by the surrounding coastal landscape where she interprets the textures and forms into metal. Over the past few years, her bespoke work has been focused on remodelling and reusing old jewellery, getting a lot of joy out of transforming unworn pieces into something contemporary and wearable.
