Complete a Jewellery Collection Course Starts (4 weeks)

  • Vanilla Ink The Smiddy Old Market Place Banff, Scotland, United Kingdom (map)

Four week course - Sundays 10am - 4pm - from the 10th to the 31st of March

This is the stuff dreams are made of! A class where you can work through your design ideas to COMPLETE A WHOLE COLLECTION. Together we can help you overcome and progress those design ideas into actual pieces. Our tutor can help advise on the best ways to bring your designs to life and your fellow course mates can encourage and support you to achieve your dreams. Oh so satisfying!

CAN I DO THIS CLASS?

This workshop is for those that have jewellery experience and are looking for some support, tools, space and big heavy machinery to help create a jewellery collection.

Participants should have completed at least one, if not two intermediate classes as well as some Taster Sessions to give you a broad range of skills required to create a collection.

WHAT HAPPENS?

Our lovely tutor will firstly discuss some ways in which jewellers develop design ideas and gather inspiration. They’ll introduce you to some ways in which you can test out your ideas, create test pieces and research material costs. There will be an opportunity for you to share your collection designs with the class allowing a wee collection community to form. There will be a loose structure to help you progress through all stages required to complete a jewellery collection along with demonstrations of techniques people may require to see again.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

All tools and machinery are provided with a limited selection of silver findings and wire at an extra cost. Please be prepared to buy your own precious materials for your collection.

Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.

If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you.

At this time we can’t let you borrow our aprons, you are advised to bring your own if you want to protect your clothes.

Due to current protocols, students will need to wear a face-covering [unless they are exempt]. You will be sent the most up to date protocols and clear instructions ahead of the class. Please feel free to bring your own water bottles/juice or a flask of tea/coffee.

WHO IS TEACHING ME?

Amy Ferguson is a designer, jeweller, silversmith and marine conservationist (yeh, WOW was our reactions too!) We are excited to welcome Amy to our team of tutors at Vanilla Ink The Smiddy for 2022. With her experience of travelling all over the world with her work in marine conservation and being based in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, Amy brings a unique perspective to her making. She loves nothing more than sharing her skills and insight with others.
