The Guru is coming to The Smiddy! World-renowned Master Polisher Stephen M Goldsmith is heading to our wonderful and unique Banff workshops to give you a two day masterclass that will improve your finishing and give you an experience you’ll never forget!
CAN I DO THIS CLASS?
Are you needing a little help with how you finish your pieces? Let’s be honest, most of us have struggled throughout our careers to figure out the best way to achieve the perfect look for our jewellery. On his two day polishing bonanza, Stephen will improve your life so much, you’ll create a statue in your garden of him as a token of thanks.
WHAT HAPPENS?
Oh geeze man, too much to list here! But it’s not exactly a mystery. You’re looking at this class because you want to improve your finishing skills. Expect a whole heap of hints, tips and tricks that will allow you to finish jewellery in a way you didn’t think was possible. And because this is The Smiddy, Stephen will be looking at specific silversmithing techniques.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
Bring a sketchbook or similar for taking notes. Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum. You’re polishing on a spindle, have a wee think about your choice of workshop attire. That lovely 80s puffy sleeve number can remain in the drawer. Like America, we love your right to bare arms for this class.
We will provide everything you need for this, which includes polishing motors, metals, materials, compounds and more. We got you covered! You will also each have your own bench where you’ll have access to all of our hand tools too.
Due to current protocols, students will need to wear a face-covering [unless they are exempt]. However, we know the world is ever-changing, so you will be sent the most up to date and clear instructions ahead of the class. Currently we cannot provide refreshments [again this may change by the time your class comes around] but please feel free to bring your own water bottles/juice or a flask of tea/coffee.
WHO IS TEACHING ME?
I cant actually believe I have to type this, but you never know…
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Stephen M Goldsmith began his journey at Rochester Art college [now known as University for the Creative Arts], was apprenticed at C.J Vander’s in 1971 and indentured with The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’.
