Scottish Stone Pendant

  • Vanilla Ink The Smiddy Old Market Place Banff, Scotland, United Kingdom (map)

This lovely class is all about embracing some beautiful Scottish stones! We will spend the day making a quality bezel to set a Scottish cabochon. You will learn (or get to practice) setting and finishing a bezel stone setting and will get to leave the class with a pretty piece of Scotland that is millions of years old.

*Stones will be provided but please feel free to bring along your own Scottish cabochon. Should you choose to use your own stone, the diameters should be approx 2-3cm*

CAN I DO THIS CLASS?

You can absolutely be a beginner for this class but it may suit those who have previously taken one of our entry-level workshops . Creating a bezel then setting is a tricky thing to do, but fear not our team will look after you and make sure you’re not left behind!

WHAT HAPPENS?

You’ll be introduced to the basics of jewellery making as you make your bezel. This includes sawing, annealing, shaping, soldering and filing. After that, it’s on to lots of lovely finishing and setting.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

Bring a sketchbook or something for taking notes etc. Everyone will have their own bench with access to all the tools and materials required to make the stone setting. You won’t need anything else as we provide the equipment needed for this session [unless you are bringing your own Scottish stone].

Please wear long hair tied up [or bring something to do so], don’t wear open-toed shoes and keep loose-fitting clothing to a minimum.

If you need glasses to see things close up, please bring them with you. Making jewellery is fiddly!

At this time we can’t let you borrow our aprons, you are advised to bring your own if you want to protect your clothes.

Due to current protocols, students will need to wear a face-covering [unless they are exempt]. You will also be sent the most up to date protocols and clear instructions ahead of the class. Please feel free to bring your own water bottles/juice or a flask of tea/coffee.
